Bugs, Smiles, and Summer Fun

Community First Tutoring Crafts with Kids at Ryan Family YMCA

This summer, CFT had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at the Ryan Family YMCA Summer Camp, where we spent time crafting with the campers. The activity of the day was making bugs out of clothespins and popsicle sticks, and it turned out to be an extraordinary experience filled with creativity, laughter, and learning.

The children let their imaginations run wild, creating a variety of fabulous creepy crawlers. From colorful caterpillars to imaginative tarantulas, all types of insects were buzzing around the room. Each child brought their unique vision to life, showing just how creative young minds can be.

This fun-filled activity wasn't just about making adorable bugs. It also played a significant role in promoting fine motor skills and enhancing social learning skills. Approximately 30 elementary and middle school students were divided into three small groups, which allowed for excellent collaboration and peer learning.

The kids worked together, brainstormed ideas, and helped each other bring their insect creations to life.

We were thrilled to see the excitement and joy on the faces of the campers as they proudly displayed their finished projects. It's always inspiring to witness the power of creativity and teamwork in action. Volunteering at the Ryan Family YMCA Summer Camp was a heartwarming reminder of why we do what we do at Community First Tutoring: to empower every child with the tools they need to thrive academically and personally, all within a supportive, community-driven environment.

We look forward to more opportunities to engage with the community and foster the growth and development of our young learners. Until next time, keep buzzing with creativity!
